And because the Android operating system is open-source, it means that the manufacturers can focus on channeling their resources on the equipment or hardware and not concentrating on the software.
Some manufactures have taken the Android operating system and modified it to fit in their own proprietary user interface. Although some Android tablets are built with 3G and 4G internet connectivity features, most of them are designed to run on conventional Wi-Fi networks. Moreover, it seems that Google is also providing manufacturers with technical assistance so that they can include the operating system and apps in their devices and this is a move that is aimed at increasing the use and popularity of this OS.
In addition, the Android operating system is one of the largest and growing software applications. It is estimated that there are over 550,000 new Android phones, which are being activated every day and this makes it one of the fastest-growing phones in the market. Today, Android phone users have grown to over 130 million and this is expected to continue increasing in the future.
Since Google controls advertising content on the devices that use the Android operating system, this could be another reason why Google promotes free access to its OS with some of the revenue earned by Google being shared with manufacturers and cellular carriers.
